There's loads of information on wild grapes, by the way - just have a look around on the net (not that I have verified any of the sources). I am doing an article on the origin and history of the grape later this month, depending on how the research goes. They've been around since about 10,000 BC - some say even before that! However, there are many books with which I need to spend quite considerable time before I can condense anything into anything legible.

I will have a look for you - I haven't heard too much about wild grapes here - I do know that Apicius spoke about them in the Roman times. I have been reading Claassens, Hughes, Hands & Kench, and the usual History of Food culprits but I must say that most of my information came from talking to wine makers. I have only recently started learning about wine and these are the first few (very tentative) steps into a massive field of knowledge. I try to keep it as brief as possible - in the meantime, I'll investigate the wild grapes.

Very interesting information! Would have loved this detail in my Cape Wine Acadamy courses. What was your source?

Do you realise this hear it has been 350 years of winemaking in South Africa? And I am seeing relative little marketinactions taking this opportunity..............

A while back there was a discussion on the vinification of Wild Grapes of South Africa by the Dutch colonists on SA Wine Forum. The initiater wanting to know if anybody has tasted wine from the wild grapes.

I was wondering if you might have come acros any information on the wild grapes?
