Today is Fete d la Musique in Cape Town & for some reason this led me to search for websites that provide readers mainly with information on local food inspired events; well, it seems that in South Africa there are no events that don’t feature food to a greater or lesser degree & you can draw your own conclusions; the same goes for Italy and France to some extent but what, I thought, happened elsewhere. It wasn’t quite as easy as I thought and this is where you come in: I need help from you.

If you have a website or blog that concentrates only on food events, please forward me the link and I’ll include it it here for everyone’s ease of reference. If you live in Cape Town there’s the  Cape Town Magazine, one of my favourites, Slowfood Mother City and Cape Town Today’s Food News. Those of you who live in restaurants, there’s always Eat Out but they don’t feature every restaurant in the country. New Yorkers are fortunate because they have Grubstreet and Londoners have Foodies of London while Tokyo seems to have only Tokyo Food Life. So now it’s over to you.

I was thrilled to discover that salad dressing is absolutely vital when eating your salads and that you’re not going to get the nutrients you  need from undressed salads!!

Monika Kinsman, founder & CEO of Thrive, a vegetarian restaurant in Seattle is sure she’ll be able to show you how to enjoy raw food; whilst I have no problem with including quite a bit in my diet, there is no way on earth that I could survive on raw food …. or can I?

If you love your elderly parents and would like them to live a little longer, make sure the increase their take in of Vitamin D and Calcium; you have no idea how much you’ll miss them when they’re gone! Interestingly my Orthopaedic surgeon was telling me the other day that he had a patient who was suffering from severe vitamin D shortage because he had been using so much sunblock that the body was starved of Vitamin D. Interesting.

Researchers from Boston University School of Medicine  have recently demonstrated in experimental models that blocking the Sigma-1 receptor, a cellular protein, reduced binge eating and caused binge eaters to eat more slowly!

It’s not often you find chefs dishing out really simple recipes but this recipe for fried fish is just so simple and so easy that it would be unkind of me not to share it here.

California fruit and vegetable growers are looking forward to legislation that will see them able to insure themselves against a future food safety scare, under an evolving Senate farm bill poised for passage late Wednesday or sometime today; way to go senators! ”When a food safety recall occurs consumers stop purchasing the product regardless of what farm the food came from,” Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein said. “When this happens, producers suffer major financial losses because of a recall they did not cause.”

There are a lot of retro-hippies in Seattle that think “cooking food” is wrong.
